Decrease in Total Links to Your Domain

A decrease in the number of links pointing to your domain is an indicator of link atrophy, or the removal of links pointing to your website. Unless you are actively working to remove spammy links from your site, this is typically a bad sign. You should review reports for recently lost links to identify if those links can be recovered, or if there is a specific reason (such as a broken page) that you may be losing links.

Let’s hope you have been actively working to produce great content and earn new links for your site. As links tend to count like “votes” for your website, seeing an increase here is almost always a good thing.  Please note, there may be instances, such as major index updates by Moz, where reports could indicate an increase in links, despite no new links being built.
